About Us

We’re Jackie and Cesar, and Petbreedia started as a way to document and remember all the furry friends we’ve looked after.

For the last three years we’ve housesat our way across Australia, Canada, the UK and Mexico, moving from one home (and one animal) to the next. In that time we’ve cared for more than 20 cats and dogs, and every single one taught us something a website couldn’t. The anxious rescue who wouldn’t eat unless you sat on the floor beside her. The Sheltie who herded us around the kitchen. The full-throttle Labrador who treated every walk like the last one he’d ever get. We learn about a breed by living with it and caring for it, not by reading a spec sheet.

That’s the whole idea behind Petbreedia. Every breed guide here is written from the inside, by two people who’ve cleaned up the accidents, figured out the food that finally worked, and watched a nervous dog slowly decide to trust us. We write down the quirks, the needs and the little tells you only pick up after weeks under the same roof, one breed at a time.

Who we are

Jackie comes from a marketing and business background and Cesar is a conservation biologist, which means our love of animals doesn’t stop at the front door: it runs through everything we do, including our sister project Wildlife Nomads, where we write about animals and conservation.

Between us we’re happiest outdoors, near the water, or on the road. We’re currently getting ready for a full lap of Australia, which will no doubt introduce us to a few more animals along the way.

Why “actually lived with the dog” matters

There’s no shortage of breed information online. Most of it reads the same because most of it is written the same way: researched, summarised, published, never once fed or walked. We wanted the opposite. A field guide from people who’ve done the messy, rewarding, hair-covered work of sharing a home with these animals.

If a breed appears on Petbreedia, it’s because one of us has lived with it. That’s the promise, and we intend to keep it.

Come say hello, and go meet the breeds.
